Organizational structure types exist because there is no one structure that can adapt to all kinds of organization. For a team structure to be effective, it must be given lots of thought and planning so team members are motivated to work as partners to achieve different assignments. Among the most used of team structures are the functional form and the project form.

The functional form and project form are organizational structure types that focus on team play. For the functional form, there would be certain teams that do work off the scene and is unique this way compared to other organizational structure types. These teams are essential for the operations of the entire organization but are not usually seen. Examples of these teams are those who handle finances, sales and organizational marketing. These teams would do work in the background without a lot of noise using guidelines given by the top brass of the organization. Usually left on their own, these teams continue working in the background until a reorganization cannot be avoided. The people in these teams are recruited carefully as they would follow a routine that top executives have already prepared before they even came in the organization. Usually, these people are permanently affixed to the organization and may even last longer than the executives who recruited them.

The other popular choice among organizational structure types would be the project form. The teams assigned with the project form structure are assembled together for specific tasks, achieve certain goals or complete an assignment in a specified timeline. After this is done, these teams are dispersed and is scattered back to their usual routine assignments. These teams may consist of the heads of marketing and advertising along with a financial controller and one the organization’s supervisors. Each of these carefully chosen individuals contributes their specialties to achieve a common goal. This structure is popular with the U.S. Military among others.
