Rigid communication is a common problem encountered when the company uses the Functional Organizational Form. Due to the inflexibility of the communication flow, the organization moves slow.
In Functional Organizational Structure, communications were sent but because of … it is only receive by the top part of the Organization. It was not properly disseminated to its entirety. Only the heads of the departments receives it and the lack of appropriate course of channel the communication stays there, leaving the lower part or the employee unknowing.
So it is imperative that communication among functions in an organization work through and can be receive upward, downward and sideways.
The Pre-Bureaucratic Organizational Structure
The job varies from one task to another, from one employee passed into another. This Pre-Bureaucratic type of Organizational Structure cannot deliver a reliable and steady production or result due to the irregularity of tasking.
Also, management and commands came from a single entity from the organization only. Employees cannot partake into decision-making process because this type of Organizational Structure is centralized. They cannot voice out opinion and give suggestion to make their job productive. They only follow what is they have been told to do even if they know a more appropriate way strategy or method better than the one being ordered. This leaves employees demoralized, frustrated and ignored. Those actions will make them feel unimportant to the company and they soon do their work carelessly.
However this type of Organizational Structure works in small business. Once you started to expand you need to change your organizational structure.
The Bureaucratic Organizational Structure
The flow of creativity and innovation inside an organization can be discouraged by the Bureaucratic Organizational Structure.
Not even a genius can spawn a variety of plan and strategy especially if he is working along with different people with different background and reference. If the company only abides with certain rules from old rules they have worked before it will never adapt to the changing times, whether on a marketplace legal or any business environment. A very routine structure of management kills ingenuity and promotes weariness to the employees, making them less productive.
If the company only adhere to proven practice and won’t allow change to enter they are bound by old business customs that will never let them compete with today’s trade and soon lost the battle of surviving in the business world.
Creativity and innovations allows new ideas to be form and get tested if it will work or not. It challenges everyone in the Company to move along the new trend and keeps inkiness, that employees can experience in a routinely job, at bay.
The Matrix Organizational Structure
With the Matrix Organizational Structure internal conflicts are common. The reason over this is authority flows not only horizontally but also sideways going over to other departments’ jurisdiction. Employees can be confused upon receiving directions from different managers from different departments. Receiving a multiple command, employees cannot functional well enough to produce what are expected of them. Having dual communication over a single job can sometimes frustrate an employee. This may cause gap between employees and managers. If these issues won’t be addressed immediately, the organization may soon experience employees resigning due to dissatisfaction and low morale.
The Divisional Organizational Structure
The weakness of Divisional Organizational Structure is all the politics over the office. This type promotes competition among the divisions of the company, but more often than not this also develops ill-feelings upon each division. It is more common that one division will weaken the other divisions just to be ahead of the rest. This will be very harmful for the company, because instead of working hand in hand towards one goal, their jealousy and competitiveness can undermine the other division and it may not functional well.
The Divisional Organizational Structure also brings compartmentalization that most of the time leads to incompatibilities.
